About
the Nordic Countries and NorPATH
The Nordic countries
The Nordic countries rely on horticulture, agriculture and forestry
production to fulfil both national demands and to secure significant
export incomes. Environmental awareness is important, and has led
to common political goals, such as the reduction of pesticide use
and focus on sustainable production methods. This has resulted in
a well developed legislation and control systems related to the
highly efficient production of healthy crops and food and fodder
produce.
The Nordic countries grow temperate climate crops
which are threatened by numerous plant pathogens, and the teaching
emphasizes sustainable solutions to disease problems on those crops.
Also substantial expertise is available at the participating universities
within the field of tropical and subtropical crops and diseases,
so the programme does not only focus on local conditions and problems,
but it will be an ideal window to study plant diseases that cause
problems in developing countries and the management of these, making
use of available know-how, technologies and equipment as part of
current projects throughout the world.
NorPath
The Nordic countries have a long history in teaching and research
in plant pathology. The five universities involved in NorPATH have
collaborated within the field of plant pathology for more than 25
years, and by joining forces we offer a wide palette of both courses
and research based thesis topics to suit your specific interests,
be it in fundamental biological questions or in solving serious
problems in practical agriculture. The mobility study programme
is offered by a team of top Nordic teachers providing a unique opportunity
to learn about the fascinating world of plant pathology, the problems
awaiting to be solved, and the solutions, to which you will contribute
in your research project.
You will get:
A chance to specialise in Plant Pathology with an element of mobility,
where
you participate in 'hand picked' courses
at another partner university than your
home university to secure a wide option of specialisation
topics.
English
- no problem. All courses and other study activities are offered
in English.
Introductory
summer school course in Plant Pathology, where you will meet the
subject, the teachers and have the opportunity
to discuss and identify your MSc thesis subject
and your personal supervisor(s) during the full length of your MSc
study.
An
informal atmosphere, where teachers are easily approachable and
tuition often takes place in small groups.
Lectures and laboratory exercises with the chance to interact and
participate actively in discussions to develop
your critical and analytical skills.
