Background
The scientific area of Biosystems Engineering, former Agricultural Engineering, has gone through significant changes over the past years. The area has broadened to incorporate new subjects of importance in the 21st century, at the same time taking responsibility for traditional questions.

To cope with this development and the problems of scarce student recruitment at several of the Nordic institutions, the cooperation between relevant Nordic departments has been intensified. Sharing as well as division of competence are possible to secure significant competence on the Nordic arena. Stimulating student mobility and distance learning concepte may increase interest from Nordic as well as international students.

The vision of NORBE is to offer an education for the application of engineering principles to the solution of problems assosciated with biologically based systems including environment, agriculture, food and biomass production, enhancing a sustainable development. Special emphasis is given to the integration of students from different educational background.
