Registration now open / PhD course Management of forest ecosystems...
The registration is now open for the course Management of forest ecosystems for bioenergy, with implications for climate change mitigation. This course will be held in Finland 2.-6.9.2013 and it is organized by the University of Eastern Finland. The course leader is Professor Heli Peltola, heli.peltola@uef.fi. Registration for the course Sustainable Breeding Plans now open
The NOVA course "Sustainable breeding plans for animal breeding" in Denmark in early August of 2013 is now open for registration.
Open call for grant applications
NOVA has opened a new autumn call for grant applications. NOVA networks can apply for funding for PhD courses and intensive master courses running in 2013.
NIMC Molecular plant-microbe interactions laboratory course
Objective: The objective of the course is to acquaint the student with inducible resistance mechanisms of plants at molecular level and the proteins produced by the plant in connection to resistance. Learning to use basic laboratory methods to analyse gene expression is a central part of the course. This includes understanding the theoretical background of the methods, the risks they contain and the ways the risks can be eliminated

Nordic initiative to strengthen collaboration in pre-breeding activities for the Nordic countries
The NOVA database update is now over, and the the database is active again. The secretariat regrets if this process has caused problems and whishes the users all the best in the future.
Due to update of NOVA database server, courses linked to the NOVA homepage are temporarily down and the application portal is inactive.

The NOVA secretariat hereby announces
open Autumn Call for NOVA PhD courses 2012
with application deadline October 15th 2011.

Courses that can be funded include NOVA PhD courses, NOVA Intensive Master Courses (NIMC) and NOVA BSc Summer Courses. More information on this can be found in the separate call for each course type below.
Please note that long term PhD course offerings, Series of Events (SoE) have priority in funding and it is also possible to apply for a NIMIC grant for three consecutive years.
No deadline is required for planning PhD course, planning, implementation and networking of NOVA Intensive Course (NIMC) or BSc course, with maximum grant of 5000 Euro.

NOVA PhD course Biosystems Instrumentation will run in October
The NOVA secretariat is happy to announce that the NOVA PhD course Biosystem Instrumentation which was announced cancelled on 11th of May is not cancelled, but will be hosted and run in October by University of Aarhus, Faculty of Agriculture and Science, AU-DJF. Approval of PhD course applications

During spring call 2011 for PhD courses to run in 2012 thirteen applications were submitted of which ten were approved. The NOVA secretariat wishes the applicants and their course teams all the best in carrying out their tasks in running the PhD courses, which will be announced and published on the NOVA web on calendar and NOVA courses when course days have been set.

Three applications were not approved since they did not meet the criteria of evaluation of NOVA PhD course applications. The applicants are welcomed to reapply in the fall with revised applications.
Open call for the fall of 2011 will be announced in September with application deadline October 15th.

June is an active month within NOVA, while five NOVA PhD courses and one MSc course will run in June. Detailed information on the courses is found both on NOVA calendar and through NOVA courses in the left column of the web page. |

The two Erasmus Mundus MSc-programmes Food of Life and MSc European Forestry which, with support from NOVA, were recently granted funding have now launched their websites. The websites can be visited at:
New MSc-programme in Agroecology at Alnarp
A new MSc-programme in Agroecology (120 HEC) will start at SLU in Alnarp in autumn 2010. For more information about the programme, please klick on the link below.

As from 3 August 2009 Helena Eklund Snäll will replace Ulf Jonsell as central NOVA coordinator.
Helena, who has a PhD in Systematic Botany, has previously worked as Node Manager for GBIF-Sweden at the Swedish Museum of Natural History. She will hold her position as NOVA coordinator, which is based at SLU, Uppsala,until the chairmanship of NOVA is transferred to Iceland 1 January 2010.
